![]() ![]() My mum and dad have a sky box over there working and installed witha big dish, getting just the free chanels but sky over hear in uk will not issue a card as they say it wont work. Can't get no sence outa no one. If you get a contract in UK I think you have to agree to keep the phone attached for a year. You can get Sky cards from most illegal installers here, but some rip you off by charging a yearly maintenance fee???? Sky only has a licence to operate in the UK, and with being grassed up by other companies are now trying to cut out the installers that are operating in other countries. Manage Your Sky Card. More than likely we will need to send you a replacement Sky viewing card. To activate your Sky card. I have been messing about with a few car boot Sky boxes and various Sky viewing cards (dark blue/yellow house expired subscription) and having read the Q&A questions. If you want to pair/activate your Sky viewing card online click here. Pairing sky card on second hand sky+ box? Mark as New; Bookmark; Subscribe; Subscribe to RSS. ![]() Do a search this forum for Sky, there have been lots of threads on it. Don't worry about it,get a Sky card registered at a UK address then bring it out or get it sent out. There are plenty of Sat people advertising in the local press. Worst thing that can happen is you can only get the free channels. You cant do that I'm afraid, because for the first year of the contract you have to be connected to a telephone line, and of course thats not possible. The only way you can do that is by bringing an existing card that you have had for more than 12 months that isn't on the SKY multiroom system. FWIW I bought a card for the basic channels (£24) in the UK, picked up a Grundig 3000 for £18 on Ebay had the card and box mated/registered to each other by Sky and brought it out here. When I phoned them before I left to register the card they asked if I had it connected to the phone and I told them no. They weren't terribly interested as these cards are meant to compete with digital receivers working with analogue TV in the UK. I run it with a 1.3m dish here in the Costa de la Luz and it gives me 24 hour coverage on all the basic UKTV channels except for occasions of very heavy rain. The reason I went for the Grundig is has a very sensitive front end. I bought one as a fully working spare at a car boot 6 months ago for £2. You cant do that I'm afraid, because for the first year of the contract you have to be connected to a telephone line, and of course thats not possible. The only way you can do that is by bringing an existing card that you have had for more than 12 months that isn't on the SKY multiroom system To Operate Sky contracts outside UK is outside the terms of the contract with sky when you buy the card, however in Practice, nobody who wants to watch abroad takes much notice, There has been a recent clampdown by SKY due to multiple contracts issued to one address in the UK, or the add doesnt exist, in these case the offenders unfortunately have been cutoff. There are various ways of getting a contract here, 1) use local installers, these will charge for the service as they have to go thru a fairly tortuous process to obtain the card. Depending on how they set the contract up this will cost from 50€ to 150€, (NB if you can provide a UK bank account and a UK address for the card to be sent to, this is the lowest cost option,) There is an annual maintenance fee on the cards which have no UK address requirement (Usually about £80.00 P.A.) If you use the UK address and UK account route, you have the contract and therefore no charges!! The card will be activated in your box by your Installer, which is part of the service you pay for. Telephone lines are only required if you take up one of Sky's special offers, or discounted starter contracts, so if you do that the card will be deactivated once SKY do a tel check and find out you are not connected!!!! If you buy just the contract without a box etc IN THE UK, you should have no problems with phone lines etc, but you will have to activate the card yourself in Either in UK or Spain, which could be troublesome if your not careful. If you just buy a FTV(Free to View( card from SKY direct for £20.00 it will work in any box providing you can receive the relevant signals thru a dish large enough, BBC and ITV and some other channels are FTA (free to air) and do not need a card, You will need a SKY card either contract or FTV to view CH4/5, SKY three and some other channels, A FTV card from an installer on the CB will cost in the region of 80/90€, If you take out just the SKY non premium channels this should work without phone in activation in any SKY box, once activated in the UK. Premium Channels need activating (SKY Sports and Sky Movies) The monthly charges for the contracts are the same as the UK and are payable in Sterling!! I would not advise the use of credit cards as these can be difficult to cancel regular payments if something goes wrong.
